The geography of the surroundings of the Archaeological Area is conditioned by the Cordal de Castrove to the north, a lines of hills which slope steeply towards the coast, on the northern shore of the Ria de Pontevedra. Therefore, except on the coastline, the relief is dominated by steep hillsides with numerous outcrops of granite.

The area of the Rias Baixas is characterised by the wealth and diversity of its prehistoric sites, and among these the open-air rock engravings are the most important and emblematic archaeological evidence.

Description générale de la destination:

The visit to the Archaeological Area involves viewing two large rocks. The first of these, called A Pedra Grande de Montecelo, is a large panel with a total predominance of inter-connected circular motifs. The second, known as Laxe das Lebres, displays a large number of zoomorphs, above all deer. As well as these two main rocks, it is possible to see other engraved panels with geometric motifs and/or naturalistic representations of deer and some horses.

Description des ressources du musée:

The Archaeological Interpretation Center of A Caeira was inaugurated on June 18, 2009. It is located in the San Salvador parish, just behind the Casal de Ferreirós. The visitors can observe and know in detail the characteristics of the petroglyphs existing in the municipality. In addition, the center includes an exact replica of the well-known petroglyph Pozo Ventura, which has exceptional characteristics in rock art in this area of the peninsula, and is reminiscent of other pieces found in Ireland or the region of French Brittany.
