Natural Environment:

The rock shelters of the Bicorp-Millares Cultural Park are situated between the Escalona River and the Caroig Massif. The local terrain is rugged due to the presence of ravines and features significant high points such as Toro (893 m) and Muela de Bicorp (904 m).

Archaeological evidences in the site:

The local rock art forms part of the Rock Art of the Mediterranean Basin on the Iberian Peninsula, which comprises a total of 36 archaeological sites. The predominant styles are Levantine and Schematic.

General description of the destination:

The Araña Caves consist of a shallow rock shelter featuring a scene of honey gathering. Barranco Moreno, meanwhile, is characterized by Schematic-style rock paintings of great formal complexity. The Voro rock shelter displays around fifty Levantine-style paintings, with scenes of archers being particularly notable. Next, Garrofero features Neolithic scenes scattered across a 23-meter surface, distinguished by the presence of female anthropomorphic figures, archers, and goats. Finally, the Vicent rock shelter houses both Levantine and Schematic paintings, with hunting scenes standing out in particular.

History of the site:

Exploration of this area began following the discovery of the Cueva de la Araña in 1920. Subsequently, research covered the greater part of the Bicorp-Miralles area, leading to significant advances in the understanding of the region.
