Natural Environment:
The valley of the River Trubia, a left-bank tributary of the River Nalón. It is a valley flanked by limestone hillsides covered in native Atlantic forest. The cave, which is more of a large rock shelter, opens out on the right bank of the River Trubia, in an area with extensive Atlantic forest covering the landscape, not far from a small floodplain formed by the confluence of the Trubia and the Rozapín stream, and where the neighbourhood of Santo Adriano is located.
Archaeological evidences in the site:
La Cueva del Conde, also known as Cueva del Forno, is an important archaeological site, particularly notable for its Upper Palaeolithic rock carvings, attributed to the Aurignacian period. The site is significant in that its archaeological layers span the transition between the Middle Palaeolithic (the era of classical Neanderthals) and the Upper Palaeolithic (from the arrival of modern humans) on the Cantabrian coast.
