Natural Environment:
Torrejón el Rubio is located in a privileged natural setting. The village is nestled between ancient pastures and very close to the Espejo and Corchu mountain ranges. Torrejón combines the ruggedness of steep mountains and majestic gates with the pastures that surround it. Our surroundings combine spectacular landscapes with sleepy pastures awakened only by the bleating of sheep, the leisurely grazing of cattle, the rooting of wild boars searching the earth, and the bellowing of early autumn echoing across rocky slopes and young acorns. An environment carved out by the whims of nature and tamed in its pastures by the sweat of farmhands, of the ancestors who came before us and have left us this landscape as our only inheritance, an inheritance that we must now care for and teach as a secret passed from ear to ear.
Archaeological evidences in the site:
To date, 107 rock art shelters have been discovered in the Monfragüe region. The oldest date back more than 8,000 years, to the Epipaleolithic period, while the most recent ones correspond to the Iron Age, some 2,800 years ago.
